Hunt Day 7 - Opening Day 2015 - Nov 14

Firearm season opened up in Indiana on Saturday, 14 NOV 2015.  That found Nick, Alex, and Me out on the golf course.  Nick sat on 15, Alex over-watched 5, and I sat on 4.  We saw tons of squirrels, birds, and a fox and fired zero shots.

Alex saw a buck running down 1, stood on the tee box like he was the king, and then ran back up 2, across 3, and then into the woods W of me.  I never saw him.

I did see one deer before first light, crossing the hill, silhouetted by the rising sun.  It was one minute before legal shooting light, but it didn't matter because she was off our property and we cannot hunt to the S.  Four more came running my way about 8:30.  I took a knee, rifle up, and safety off.  At their trajectory, they were going to cross the property line 20 yards E of me.  They turned and went back SE, again all on property we cannot hunt.

A red fox came by.  I am guessing it was a she, as it 'squatted' to piss - on the bridge of all places - probably marking the territory.  Not sure if foxes follow the canine rule of hiking a leg to pee or not.  Anyway it cross all around me, then Alex, and then trotted by Nick.  None of us got pictures, but it was entertaining.

That's about all Nick saw in 2 hours.  On his way out, he did push 4 deer up on 16 and then due E to RePhil and Shawn.  Shawn busted a large doe.  RePhil had already taken a buck.  Nice body, but poor rack.  He felt bad for a bit, but is now happy he has meat in the freezer.

Shots rang out all around, and we never fired a shot.  We left at 9:30 as the golf course was opening for golfers.  Even though it was 21 degrees F this morning, there was no wind.  Sound traveled really far.  Clear and cold.  However, it's going to reach 55 and that's warm enough for some crazy golfers to keep us from hunting the course this afternoon.

Davey was lucky enough to get a doe this morning as well.  So we all helped drag, gut, and hang them.  We hope to take them up to Simpson's in Young America with the rest of the deer we kill tomorrow.

We return and cook elk sirloin tips wrapped in bacon for lunch.  We call out Pa Jerry to join in the feast.  We're done for the day.  But it was successful.

You can't see it on this small of a picture, but there is a deer walking in the
middle.  See the tree leaning left, center frame?  Deer under it.  7:00 am.

The golf course after the sun is up.  Cool morning at 21 F.  Frosty!

It was dark when we walked in.  Here is after we are done.
Nick & Alex giving a shout out to our sponsor, Modelo.

RePhil's Deer Cart Express.  This gem worked great, especially up hill!

Davey & RePhil with their kills.
Note RePhil's head tilt - trying to look 'larger' in the pic.
That's an ole Dave Jones trick.
