No Hunt - Clear Beaver Dam

So RePhil is supposed to be in Michigan visiting family this weekend.  But Davey calls last night and says he is helping RePhil remove a huge log dam in his creek.  Wait, what?

The rains have washed out trees and jammed them up in RePhil's creek.  This backs up the water into his yard, and if it's really raining, all the way into his pool.  Not good.

Now it seems that BaaBaa RePhil was cutting wood alone Thursday night trying to get the jam out of the creek.  After falling with his gas saw and nearly taking his head off, he thought it would be SMARTER to use an ELECTRIC chainsaw in the water.  Huh?  Is that what they teach at Indiana State?

After I was driven from the woods last night due to mosquitoes, I imagined that it would actually be a better day cutting wood in a creek.  I got up at 7:30, ran Kathy's dog, loaded up the gator and headed to get Davey.

We pulled into RePhil's at 0900.  We took before photos.

Davey is proud of his rubber boots.
Yes those are Bloody Mary glasses on the tailgate.

A little brotherly love before cutting wood.

We drove to the first of three log jams.  Davey and I cut and hauled logs while RePhil ran the winch.  An important job, to be sure, and since his back is whacked, that's all he did.

As I was moving a log, I noticed a snapping turtle in the creek.  I reached down and did some Live Action!  Caught a nice female and put her up on the bank to attack RePhil.

Live Action!  Nice female snapper I pulled out of the creek.

Sometime around 1100 or so, RePhil's wife, Marybeth, called us up to the house to have some brunch.  Of course we were in water / muck up to our underwear, so we were not allowed inside.  We ate brunch on the deck.  Marybeth made biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and fruit.  We washed it down with pumpkin bread.  Then back at it.  It was funny that during breakfast, Marybeth told RePhil he was not to be out there cutting wood by himself as it was not safe.  He proved her point very well.  She said, How about inviting your dumb friends over to do it instead?  Damn - that's us!

We pulled what wood we could to save for the fireplace.  What was rotten, we cut into small pieces and are going to let God wash them downstream.  As I started to fill my chainsaw, I broke the oil cap.  My saw was out of commission.  We only used Davey's saw and we passed it back and forth.

We rolled out at 1600, wet and tired.  That was a lot of work.  But hey, that's what friends do for each other.

I grabbed that snapper out from under the log on the far right of this photo.
We are about 1/3rd of the way done in this shot with this jam.
There are still two more jams to clear.
