Huntin' Yotes 25 JAN

Image
I thought I had plenty of time because the wife was working until 10.  Well I was wrong.  She got home at 6 to a dark house and no note on my where-abouts.  I was up 'Nort calling in coyotes.  My bad. I picked up Krueger at 4 pm.  We drove up NE of Delphi around Burnettsville to the LT's place along the river.  It was about 25F (-4 C) with 15 mph winds.  That puts the wind chill at 12 degrees.  What does Krueger do?  He puts me up 15' in the air into a deer stand.  Oh, the wind wasn't blowing up there, no!  I did get to see 30 deer, 19 turkeys, and tons of geese landing on the river.  Alas, no coyotes on the first set. We walked across the property to the SW and sat along a small ditch, hiding ourselves in the tall grass.  We called for maybe 25 minutes with no luck and were running out of light.  Krueger hit the 'pups in distress' call and BAM!  A coyote came on a dead sprint right at us across a picked corn...

Must it be so hard? My Micro Fuse Battle

Image
I'm installing front-facing and rear-facing dash cameras into the Explorer.  First challenge?  Find the God-forsaken fuse panel.  Had to use YouTube to locate.  It's up under the parking brake, on the left or driver's side of the vehicle.  And I mean WAY UP THERE.  Had to practically dismantle the lower dash to access it.  Bad design Ford! Next, I pull the fuse, and to what do my wondering eyes should appear but this thing called a Micro3 fuse.  Have never seen one before.  Okay.  No big deal, except my power adaptor fits into the ATO or regular blade fuse type.  Great.  I am not getting power out of that adaptor. So I do some research.  Turns out that the Micro fuses use a common power strip (the middle one) and can protect two different circuits - the outside blades.  Sounds pretty ingenious and saves space.  I'm on board.  Just wish I would have known that information FIRST. Micro3 fuses - note t...

Some Bunny Adventures

Image
Got out today, Sunday, 13 JAN 2019, with Davey and son-in-law Alex to hunt some bunnies.  There was about 6" of snow on the ground and although it blew overnight, it was not too awful bad today.  The temperature hung around 28F. We walked Marshall's S farm along the creek.  We saw only one bunny track and zero bunnies.  We did see lots of deer tracks and a few coyote tracks.  We drove back and walked the swamp.  It is really THICK.  We all got cut up on the briars and saw ONE bunny for about 0.75 seconds.  Not even enough time to pull up the gun before he was gone...On our way out, we busted three doe in the square woods.  The ran N, across the train tracks, and into the woods. We then drove to Marshall's N farm and walked the bottoms.  We saw tons of deer tracks.  But again, we saw zero signs of bunnies.  By now it's almost 11 o'clock and time for lunch. Our watches said we logged 2.92 miles this morning, but I can guara...

Another Coyote Hunt - Full of Adventure

Image
Krueger and I went out to call coyotes on Saturday, 05 JAN.  Krueger initially wanted a 7 am pickup.  I talked him into 7:15. We drove out to Marshall's S farm.  It was a slight 6 mph wind from the W and 31F.  Clear and quiet with a light frost on the ground. We parked below the hill and walked up to the top.  About halfway down to our sit spot, Krueger spotted a very large coyote walking E to W in the middle of the field.  I set up the tripod and asked for a hold-over.  The coyote left before we got a shot off.  We called.  Nothing else came. We left there and went to the fertilizer plant.  This time, due to the close quarters, we took a shotgun instead of a rifle.  Krueger set the call up to my right and the Mojo decoy in a slight ravine about 10 yards in front of me.  I squatted down with a large oak tree to my back.  Krueger hit the call.  A very large barn owl responded - it swooped in - grabbed the decoy -...
