A little Rabbit Hunting - 18 FEB
RePhil and I went out to Marshall's this afternoon to try and rustle up some bunnies. There was only a slight breeze and the temps hovered around 40 F. It was a nice day to be out.
We started at the bottoms of the N farm and saw nothing but 3 red-tailed hawks. We found Roach's trail camera and let it take a few "action" shots of us. There may be one of a rear-end as well. MAY, I said MAY.
We then hit the creek along the road at the S farm. Understand, both of these places were rabbit friendly earlier in the hunting season. So what did we see at the S farm? Three more red-tailed hawks. We are beginning to think the hawks took out all of "our" rabbits.
As we walked, I saw something red - or at least that is what I told RePhil. As we came upon it, it was a Valentine's Day balloon that had escaped - again, what I told RePhil. Actually, I planted it in preparation of asking him to be my Valentine. He declined.

RePhil and his Valentine's Day balloon.
As we walked on, we found another balloon, some old shells, a coffee cup, and other assorted trash - which we picked up and carried out of the woods. We're taking care of the land that Harold lets us hunt.
We did find a dead raccoon stuck in a tree about 5 feet off the ground. I asked what was stuck in its mouth - those were its guts coming out. Not sure what caused the death, but it has been there a while.
Dead raccoon
We ended up back at the truck, having walked 2.5 miles and seeing not a single bunny or squirrel or deer. So we cracked open a Shinerbock and toasted the day. We still won!
End of the hunt. Shoes changed and beers open.
