Coyote Calling Saturday 16 JAN 2016

Image
Krueger and I went out this afternoon at 3:45 to try and call in some coyotes before the big freeze hits.  It was 30 degrees with a slight breeze (10 mh) from the WSW. We made two sets on the first property and only saw a blue jay.  We swapped properties and after two sets there saw nothing - unless you count the 50 or so geese.  We should have brought geese decoys and shotguns instead of coyote decoys and rifles. We did get to see some pretty Indiana countryside and a spot of Big Red as he set in the West.  Beautiful day to be out and about - even if nothing died. That's decoy George "watching" the Mojo move in the background. He's facing into the wind.  We sat back this way (downwind). You can just see Big Red through the trees.  Beautiful out.

Be Werry, Werry, Kwiet...we're hunting wabbits

In between regular work, gathering data for Pheasants Forever, recycling, feeding the baby, etc....me, Davey, and RePhil took some time off to hunt rabbits. It was a cool 40 degrees F with sprinkles (at first) coming down.  We marched Marshall's N property along the bottoms.  We pushed one out the end and fired SIX shots at him.  We got him though, and he weren't ruined - because 5 of the 6 shots MISSED.  We're freaking awesome shots! We left there, drank a beer, took a photo, and then headed to Marshall's south farm. Davey & RePhil with our sole rabbit at Marshall's N farm. Note the chins tilted upward?  That's so they appear taller. They appear like Losers to me, especially RePhil with his Mexican Shirt. We parked at the S and sat out the rain.  We then walked the creek N.  And we saw ZERO.  As we made the turn, I just about stepped on one and it took off running back S.  It went under a log, so I had no shot.  RePhil saw it as it crossed

Will, do you wanna build a snowman?

Thursday, 14 JAN 2016.  I took Jersey for a walk this afternoon while I picked up the mail.  It was pleasant, 40 degrees and only a slight breeze.  I didn't even wear a coat. On our way back, I stopped by the family room window and made a snowman for grandson Will Martin, who is two weeks old today. It's miniature, just like him.  I put it in the window, and because I did that, I had to build a "glacier" for it to stand on - otherwise you would not have been able to see it. I took this picture from inside the house - so the screen kinda blurs the picture.  Oh well, you get the idea. Poor little guy did not last 2 hours.  He must have not had a magical hat. As you can see, most of our snow is gone.  We had several inches, and when it blew, probably got to over a foot in some locations.  Not now.  Rain tomorrow and then cold again. Come on Spring!  Hurry it along....
