Rabbit Hunting in Batesville - 23 FEB 2016

Image
Davey and I picked up RePhil at 6:30 am and headed down to Batesville.  Davey flexed his time off, me and RePhil took vacation time. We stopped for breakfast in Lebanon.  We ate at Denny's.  Davey bought.  RePhil tried to pick up the waitress. We arrived N of Batesville about 10:00.  It was fun sun and about 37 F.  We pushed Bill Fee's place.  It certainly is thick with primrose.  Wear your brush pants for this trip boys. Davey jumped the first bunny - and it disappeared without anyone firing a shot. I jumped the next one and it bolted to my left.  I missed twice. I jumped the third and last one.  It ran to Dave, he missed.  It ran back to me and RePhil and went underground. We made it back to the truck about Noon. RePhil (front) and Davey (back) walking for bunnies on a beautiful day in February. Can anyone guess what RePhil is doing? The thorn bushes did not bother me.  Hell, I walked through wi...

A little Rabbit Hunting - 18 FEB

Image
RePhil and I went out to Marshall's this afternoon to try and rustle up some bunnies.  There was only a slight breeze and the temps hovered around 40 F.  It  was a nice day to be out. We started at the bottoms of the N farm and saw nothing but 3 red-tailed hawks.  We found Roach's trail camera and let it take a few "action" shots of us.  There may be one of a rear-end as well.  MAY, I said MAY. We then hit the creek along the road at the S farm.  Understand, both of these places were rabbit friendly earlier in the hunting season.  So what did we see at the S farm?  Three more red-tailed hawks.  We are beginning to think the hawks took out all of "our" rabbits. As we walked, I saw something red - or at least that is what I told RePhil.  As we came upon it, it was a Valentine's Day balloon that had escaped - again, what I told RePhil.  Actually, I planted it in preparation of asking him to be my Valentine.  He declined...

Coyote Hunting - Saturday 06 FEB

Image
Got up before the sun on this fine crisp Saturday morning.  Alex and I picked up Krueger at 0715.  It was 24 degrees F with a slight 4 mph wind out of the S.  It was a clear morning, which means there was a heavy frost and the sound waves traveled really well on the air. We drove to Marshall's S farm.  As we passed 600W, we saw 2 deer out eating in the twilight.  Then when we walked in, we saw 18 more on Marshall's farm.  Most were eating in the back swamp, but 6 were in the woods right next to where we set up.  We spooked them.  But we set up anyway, and before we could even start the call, we had a coyote out by the grain bin.  We all watched her for about an hour (Her?  Yes, I watched her pee.  Her for sure).  She would not come into the call.  We left for Marshall's N woods. Sunrise on Marshall's S farm.  2/6/2016 Note the hard frost on the ground. Look closely, There are two hunters in this photo...
